Told in the classic prince-and-the-pauper format, the film aims to strike a chord with viewers.

The star cast of the movie Gulshan Grover, Master Harsh Mayyar, Master Husan Saad, French actress Beatrice Ordeix along with the director, Nila Madhab Panda were present at the press conference held in New Delhi held lately.

"I have done 400 movies so far, Bollywood and International. I did 'I Am Kalam' because of an unusual choice of role. There are tender, light and romantic moments in the movie and it is the vulnerability of the character I play which is unusual," says Gulshan Grover, dressed in a black suit while making witty comments in between. He plays a dhaba owner in the movie.

He is excited and happy about this educational cum entertaining movie and says, "First lady Michelle Obama's speech had a tremendous impact on me. She said that they have come from humble backgrounds and their parents never hesitated to give them good education." He also adds, "Even I used to live in the outskirts of Delhi but my parents did everything to provide me education and as a result, I did my M.Com from SRCC. And for that, I used to walk daily for 2.5 kms and used to change three buses. This is why, I truly understand the importance of education in our lives. I did my best to educate my son Sanjay, who is now working with MGM studios in L.A."

'I Am Kalam', which is set in the deserts of Bikaner, Rajasthan revolves around the trials and tribulations of the protagonist's (Harsh Mayyar) struggle for education. He is inspired by the speech of former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam who believes in karma rather than kismet.

Speaking on the occasion Nila Madhab Panda, Director of the film expressed, "I wanted to send out a message that effort is more powerful than fate and that the privileged masses must join the effort to educate the children helping them to dream and turn their dreams into breathing reality. The film celebrates the survival of the human spirit against overwhelming odds. It is an inspirational film aimed at both children and adult viewers which deals a social problem in an entertaining way."

The movie has been selected for 16 film festivals and won several accolades. Reacting to this, the director says, "It is the celebration of humanity and faith in passion for Indian cinema in the world and winning of a good script."

Harsh Mayyar, the child artist who debuts with the film has an interest in singing, dancing and acting. He did a brilliant rendition of Kailash Kher's 'Saiyyan' for the media. He says, "I was trying my hand in acting since I was six years old and I am very happy to get this role which depicts the aspirations of so many children like me who want to study and become successful in life. It's great to hear that the audience globally has appreciated the work."

French actress Beatrice Ordeix, who has been living in India for the past 10 years, expresses her love for India through the movie and says, "I am really glad to be part of it and want everyone to watch this delightful movie which carries human emotions so well. It is a taste of different situations, poverty, beliefs and the amazing bond of friendship."
